Its fine wines are enjoyed in more than 10 countries in four continents.
Natural Wines
Our wines are produced using the EU’s Biological Production guidelines, the equivalent of Organic in the U.S. No herbicides or chemical fertilizers are used. Beside the natural growing methods of the vines, the grape fermentation is traditional, without the use of artificial enzymes or agents.
Viticulture and Winemaking
In our vineyards the grape varieties Castelão (also known as Periquita), Tinta Miúda and Alicante Bouschet maturate in a clayey soil in ample sunshine with a low rainfall rarely exceeding the 400-500 ml a year. The vines grow in shallow and low fertile soils in order to diminish the production, thus improving the quality of the grape. They are not watered at any moment of the year to prevent the decreasing of tannins, basic elements for excellent aging. The pruning of the vines during winter and summer is performed conscientiously and with extreme care. After the sprout of the grape but before the "Vindima" some fruits, when necessary, are removed from the vine in order to enhance the quality of the brunches remaining in the plant. All these labours decrease the yield of the vineyards but keep the appropriate amount of production in order to obtain the best grapes with the best grade, acidity and tannic structure needed for the subsequent ageing and production of our wines.
